It's official! I'm a candidate for D13!
As many of you know, I am term-limited and will not be able to run again for county council in 2018. So, I have spent a lot of time over the last year thinking about what’s next. Where can I make the most difference? How can I continue to serve our community?
Yesterday, after 24 years of dedication and service to the constituents of District 13, Delegate Frank S. Turner announced his retirement. After carefully considering my options, and in light of Delegate Turner’s decision not to seek another term, I am pleased to announce that I have decided to run for Maryland State Delegate for District 13.
In addition to Delegate Turner’s announcement, there are several other reasons I am making the decision to run. First, I knew that I wanted to continue working with the community to address concerns, solve problems, and improve life for everyone in Howard County. Second, my education as a lawyer and my experience as an activist, followed by nearly 12 years serving as a member of the Howard County Council, make me highly qualified to represent our community at the State level. Finally, these uncertain times on the national political scene call for state and local representatives to address problems that were once addressed at the national level, and I know as your delegate I can be part of the solution.
As your council member, I have focused on education, public safety, and transportation; I have fought for more affordable housing and a living wage, and worked hard to support our immigrant families, people with disabilities, and other marginalized communities. I listen, I care, and I act. And I believe this makes a difference in people’s lives. You have made it possible for me to serve our community for more than a decade, and I hope I can count on your support as I look toward this next chapter.
